On the edge of the High atlas Mountains lays the traditional mud brick city of ait-Benhaddou, part of the UNESCO World Heritage List – the location invokes biblical images, so much so that the city has featured in many films as a replacement for Jerusalem. The visit to ait Ben Haddous is followed by a drive to ouarzazate – a relatively small town that has been nicknamed as the “ the door to the desert ” due to its position between the atlas Mountains and the Sahara. Here you will visit the Kasbah of Taourirte – the ancient residence of the last Sultan of the atlas; Glaoui. The name Ouarzazate comes from a Berber phrase which translates as “ without noise/without confusion” which highlights its intriguing position.
